Description

And on her back she carried her treasures. The mementos, the throphies. Painted under her skin, carved through blood -similar to what they shed for her pleasure- were the handprints. One from each.

This was made for schoold project in which we had to design a book cover for a imaginary book. We were given a list of made up titles and authors from which we had to choose one and then plan out the basic plot, genre, and the target audience, as well as design a fitting cover.

This illustration is based on a backstory I came up for a title called Glass Houses (by Ayako Morikawa). I wanted to make the book into a japanese type thriller/horror story, and also wanted to try out using traditional japanese imagery. (Hopefully I didn't totally butcher it).

The story I came up with:

You can see the mansion from the city.
It's been there for a long time and everyone knows about the mansion of fluttering cherry blossoms as they call it. As for why they call it that, the reason is the huge stained glass wall, covered in thousands of cherry blossoms that glow when the sunlight shines on them.
The wall in all it's beauty can be seen from the city, and as far as anyone knows that's also as near as anyone besides the lady of the mansion has ever gotten to it. It has been commonly accepted that yes, the wall is as beautiful as the lady it belongs to and no, no one will ever visit the mansion. That's how it's always been, and that's how it will continue to be.
What people do not know, is that every now and then a single invitation is sent out. The beautifully cut card only has an address and one sentence written on it. "You have been invited to Glass Houses, welcome.", signed with a deep red, painted cherry blossom.
If you decide to go, you will get to see the stained glass wall in all it's beauty. You will also get to add your own bloody hand print to the ones already covering the walls of a glass maze, to the ones that can be seen from afar glistening as beautifully as cherry blossoms in the sunlight.
The lady of the mansion will be grateful.

So that's that. I hope you like my "lady of the cherry blossoms".
